Class List Development Guidelines: Each year as a new school term approaches, parents may become concerned about their children’s placement in a new grade. We would like to make you aware of how we organize our classes and the procedures we follow: Teachers of a particular grade meet (other teachers/administrators may also be present) and organize the students into classes based on the following criteria: Ability Distribution: The best conditions for an effective learning community are to place children in an environment where there is a range of abilities. There is strength in diversity and students are able to draw on the richness of positive group dynamics. Gender Balance: It is important that the boy/girl ratio is as balanced as possible. Support System: Children make new friends each year and it is important for them to have the opportunity to interact with different peers. This will be taken into consideration as we move children into a new learning environment. Work Ethic: Some students are highly independent workers, while others may require more direction and support. We strive to balance these attributes in order to create a supportive learning environment. Behavior: Within our school, we have students who exhibit a variety of behaviors. Some students require more guidance and positive role modeling on what is acceptable and proper behavior. Thus, it is important to distribute children who have behavioral needs among different classrooms. Children with Exceptional Needs: We may have children in our school that require academic challenge or academic support. Equal distribution of these students in each classroom is taken into consideration when creating classes. Parents’ Requests: Our professional staff know their students, their strengths and their areas for growth. They are aware of their interactions with their peers and their need for support as they move forward. It is our professional goal to set up as ideal a classroom learning community as possible at each grade level for the new school year. Thank you for your support and trust in our professional ability to set up the learning community for next year. The well-being of every child is at the center of our decision making. If there are circumstances which need to be addressed concerning your child’s placement, please bring this information to Mrs. Jubinville’s attention IN WRITING prior to June 17, 2022 at [email protected] We will be finalizing class lists in June and posting them outside the classrooms in August. Changes will not be made to class lists once they are finalized. |
